I have just experienced the same problem with A/focusing on Nikon 70-200 mm f2.8 lens! It simly stopped A/focus and I used D4 and D800E cameras with the same results. And then I used manual focusing ring few times after which the lens A/focus started working again!! Weird think was that after taking some 100 shots A/focus stopped working again!!
